Enjoying singing from an early age, countertenor Hanno Egger found the stage as a soloist in his early teens and from then on began to pursue professional music practice. Starting at the Academy for Musical Talent led by Erika Waardenburg, he studied singing with Selma Harkink at the conservatories of Utrecht and Amsterdam. In June 2025 Hanno performed his graduation concert, on which the committee commented: ‘His breath control is solid, the coloraturas impressively precise, and he has a great sense of style.’ He graduated with the highest mark.

At present Hanno is an active young countertenor in the world of Opera, Oratorium and Lied. His delivery of music is being characterized by a touching depth and sincerity, in which his love for singing and music shines through. He has great affinity with the Baroque repertoire and his recent performance practice includes Bach’s Passions and Oratoria, Pergolesi’s Stabat Mater, aria’s by Händel, Porpora and Hasse as well as song repertoire by Dowland and Purcell, next to Schubert and Britten.

He debuted as Ottone in Monteverdi’s L’incoronazione di Poppea, performed the role of l’Enfant in Ravel’s L’Enfant et les sortilèges, and recently sang at the Dutch National Opera in the production of Purcell’s Dido & Aeneas. Coming year he will sing the alto solo in Bach’s John Passion in the Amsterdam Concertgebouw and tour through Europe with Bach’s Matthew Passion.

Hanno has enjoyed mentoring by singers as Michael Chance, Daniel Taylor, Lynn Dawson and Rosemary Joshua, and followed masterclasses with Margreet Honig, Bejun Mehta, Peter Kooij and Ira Siff. He currently lives in Utrecht, Netherlands, a vivid center of early music performance, where he is actively engaged in musical and cultural life.
